I'm sure I am not the first person to say this...
Tha O.S.G. FamilyOne of the worst perpatrators of this terrible music was the delusional group Otha Side of Da Gate Recordz (A.K.A. O.S.G Family). The performance put on by this group was so bad that I almost laughed. I have never seen so many men make fools of themselves while being totally serious. They seemed to think (I cannot know for sure as I do not have the pleasure of being in this stellar musical number) that they were real time "Hyphy Rappers", fit with grillz, fit caps, extra tall white-tees, and "stunna shades". It was pathetic. Someone should either enlighten them to their musical ineptness or kill them in order to stop this travesty (I hope I don't get a price on my head after this, but honestly, these guys were so fake I bet they all live with their mothers and their only crew are the guys that they work with at the local Quik-Stop). That may seem harsh, but these guys were giving a cross section to what Hyphy music has become. The once pulsating, imaginative beats that filled the "scrapers" all across the "Yay" have turned into repetitive pulsating annoyances that required less creativity to make than a xerox of one's ass. The lingo that used to be fresh and goofy--"going dumb", "stupid", "ghost ridin' the whip"--is now being repeated so much that I have become immune to their meanings. It reminds me of yelling "No!" at my dog too much--at some point, it has no effect. These groups are taking two of the least creative things in music and combining them to create terrible, ear-punishing noises. This is compounded by the fact that these guys can't rap for shit. I could grab nine people of the street, tell them to yell "I got grapes!" with no tempo what so ever, and play a beat that I made on GarageBand in two minutes underneath them. We would probably give Tha O.S.G. Family a run for their money. I might stick to Dipset for a while.
The Verdict: GuiltyWhat is the reason for this genre's fantastic and horrific fall from grace? I do not want to discredit some of the genre's pioneers: Mac Dre, E-40, etc., but has Hyphy music always sucked? Or, was this concert an isolated incident of suck-ass-ness?
To soothe your sorrow about the entire genre of rap, I have included one of my all time favorites: CMA - All Over. Although you may already know it and have many of the tracks, the entire album is put together really well. I hope you enjoy it (I apologize that it is on rapidshare, as I have heard that some readers do not like downloads from that server), it is really a gem.

That being said, I still believe in hyphy. I think another appropriate title for this thread may have been "Too much of a good thing". There is a reason we all loved it when it first broke out, and every once and a while it's fun to listen to. But I agree; hyphy needs a fresh direction, or else it will simply continue to rot.
