I'm sure I am not the first person to say this...

Tha O.S.G. Family

Hyphy is dead. Last saturday, I attended the "Hyphy 15" concert and was subjected to a cruel and unusual kind of torture: being witness to the fall of a musical fad. This musical display--if you could even call it that instead of inaudible screams of Hyphy catch-phraises over beats composed by a chimp--was so terrible that I had to remove myself from the situation and now regard that experience as "one of the worst and most depressing moments of my life". This was a drag also because I was attending the concert to see Andre Nickatina's set, but I was so disgusted and uncomfortable from the concert that I had to leave before I could hear him--I heard he had a decent set.

One of the worst perpatrators of this terrible music was the delusional group Otha Side of Da Gate Recordz (A.K.A. O.S.G Family). The performance put on by this group was so bad that I almost laughed. I have never seen so many men make fools of themselves while being totally serious. They seemed to think (I cannot know for sure as I do not have the pleasure of being in this stellar musical number) that they were real time "Hyphy Rappers", fit with grillz, fit caps, extra tall white-tees, and "stunna shades". It was pathetic. Someone should either enlighten them to their musical ineptness or kill them in order to stop this travesty (I hope I don't get a price on my head after this, but honestly, these guys were so fake I bet they all live with their mothers and their only crew are the guys that they work with at the local Quik-Stop). That may seem harsh, but these guys were giving a cross section to what Hyphy music has become. The once pulsating, imaginative beats that filled the "scrapers" all across the "Yay" have turned into repetitive pulsating annoyances that required less creativity to make than a xerox of one's ass. The lingo that used to be fresh and goofy--"going dumb", "stupid", "ghost ridin' the whip"--is now being repeated so much that I have become immune to their meanings. It reminds me of yelling "No!" at my dog too much--at some point, it has no effect. These groups are taking two of the least creative things in music and combining them to create terrible, ear-punishing noises. This is compounded by the fact that these guys can't rap for shit. I could grab nine people of the street, tell them to yell "I got grapes!" with no tempo what so ever, and play a beat that I made on GarageBand in two minutes underneath them. We would probably give Tha O.S.G. Family a run for their money. I might stick to Dipset for a while.

The Verdict: Guilty

What is the reason for this genre's fantastic and horrific fall from grace? I do not want to discredit some of the genre's pioneers: Mac Dre, E-40, etc., but has Hyphy music always sucked? Or, was this concert an isolated incident of suck-ass-ness?

To soothe your sorrow about the entire genre of rap, I have included one of my all time favorites: CMA - All Over. Although you may already know it and have many of the tracks, the entire album is put together really well. I hope you enjoy it (I apologize that it is on rapidshare, as I have heard that some readers do not like downloads from that server), it is really a gem.

Where would the "umlaut" be without these guys...

I decided I needed more non-rap on my iPod. So I downloaded the Mötley Crüe's Greatest Hits. I can't imagine how many classic rock afficionados are barfing right now...

Anyways, here are my favorites.

Shout at the Devil

Wildside

Kick Start My Heart

Dr. Feelgood (I'm pretty sure this was written about me. Probably.)

Rock on, jabronis.

Three Lions on the Shirt...

It's been a long time since I posted, and its been an even longer time since we have seen some soccer on the blog. I think I have finally figured out how to get some youtube shit on the blog. So here, I am putting up 3 videos. The first is the goal I consider the best (maybe) I have seen, considering the circumstances. Next is the 10 best goals from January. I might try to put these up monthly. Last is just old school class. Michael I know you've seen this one.
P.S. Sorry for lots of videos in one post but i haven't been able to use youtube for hella long so this is just a one time thing. Michael I compromised and took one off.

King of the...ch, I ain't gotta tell ya...

Another week, another update. Just got the new Keak/Messy/P.S.D. tha Driver album, Da Bidness. I hadn't listened to any Bay shit in a while, basically because I got sick of it. Listening to this CD doesn't necessarily want me to become as obsessed with hyphy music as I was a year ago, but it certainly reminds me of the good ol' days. This shit is simply feel-good music.

That Go- Keak da Sneak (Solo)
Great, quintessential hyphy beat. Which basically means, the P-value of you not wanting to dance to this track is extremely low (Leah Dorazio shout out!!!). Half the fun of listening to Keak is trying to figure out what he's saying. I think the first verse starts something like this:
He just might go all the way
Goin goin, long gone
first, second, third, Home
Oakland, Athletic fit ballin

Thought you'd like that, Johnny.

Cool Nigga feat. Rick Rock - P.S.D., Keak Da Sneak, Messy Marv
Good shit.

Hoes ft. Mac Dre- P.S.D., Keak Da Sneak, Messy Marv
Of course, what's a album from the Yay without a track with the man himself. My favorite song off the album, just proving that even when he's dead, anything Mac Dreezy touches turns to gold. Gotta love it.

Is there something wrong with this picture?

Take a look at everything on the page...closely.

Toyota fears U.S. backlash

There seems to be some slant here that is pretty interesting. Is it a little strange that a site sponsored by a Detroit newspaper would right an article talking about the concerns of a foreign car company? This idea of "Free Press" seems a little tainted to me.

Recent Acquisitions:

I have been on a couple of blogs over the past couple of weeks and have heard a lot of praise from these two albums. The Murs and 9th Wonder album "Murray's Revenge" is really good. I love in the first couple of tracks how Murs raps about the content of his rhymes and how he isn't a "backpacker" which is being said about him because he doesn't rap about guns and drugs and shit. I need to give a closer listen to get a good feel for 9th Wonder, but he is doing a collaboration with Murs, which is saying something. The second album is Camp Lo's "Fort Apache, The Mixtape Album". Camp Lo is a rap duo from The Bronx, consisting of Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede. This record is more of a variety show of pretty funky beats and some catch phraises like "52". Some key listens would be "82 Afros", "Suga Willie's Revenge", and "Lo Lean". It is something a little different I think, and the cover is pretty cool/it might be super racist. Enjoy...

YouTube Search: "Amazing High School Football"...

So being at home with dual-disconjunctivitus(aka, pink-eye dominating both my eyes)
is really a bummer. I can't watch TV or play video games because I can't wear my fucking contacts. So I found this video.
Plano East vs. John Tyler November 26, 1994.
Plano East Panthers down 41-17 with 2:42 to go. Can they pull it out?

Wow. While I was watching this I was thinking of making a blog post and writing about #88 (Terrance Green I think, who not only is a beast on offense but kicks each onside kick) or writing about the commentary. Instead, I'm just going to say: wow. Just, wow.

Officer down, get a wet nap people...

Another movie I want to see. I watched the entire last season of this show and actually found it really funny. And now there is a movie. And it looks funny. Yay.

On a similar note, anyone remember when I overheard the guys in front of me at the Giants game talking about Super Troopers 2. Well I did some research and I couldn't find a release date for the film except 2008, but I did find some information on the plot. It is going to be a prequel. One website had this to say: "Super Troopers 2, which will be a prequel to the original, finds the comedy troupe playing the father's of their characters in the first film. Having mildly enjoyed Super Troopers, I sincerely hope the sequel (or prequel) entertains. Heck, it's set in the 70s -- mix a whole lot of drugs with an afro or two and you've got yourself a winner. Right?" I'm pumped.

DVD > Hell...

When I was in Boston with my mother we turned on the news and this segment was on FOX. It raises a lot of issues, not only in terms of faith, but the bias of the FOX news channel. I think this site, Blasphemy Challenge is being a little too extreme. I feel that they might be taking advantage of a lot of impressionable teens. At the same time, the creator of the movement, Brian Flemming, raises some good points. By looking at the website you can learn more about this movement, but I think you guys will get a kick out of this interview. It is pretty funny to watch Flemming laughy at this guy while he tries to tear him apart. I will let you guys make your own decisions, but I think it is a pretty hot issue.

Small children make nice targets...

Moving away from music for a sec... I just saw this on TV and figured it would make a good post. Y'all might not think it is interesting but I remember them filming outside my house two or three years ago. The movie itself actually looks pretty good and as a bonus it is made by the same guy who made Seven and Fight Club, two pretty entertaining movies. So here it is:

Check out the filming of the bridge. Does it look really fake to anyone else?

These are some serious times...

I read about this album a couple of months ago in The Fader magazine and got my hot little hands on it through OiNK. It is a compilation of XL Recording's greatest raggae hits over the past couple of years, including artists like Turbulence, I Wayne, and Sizzla. It is really good. As it turns out, most of the songs on it were also on a very popular mixtape that circulated around the area about two years ago (it had permanent residence in the green SAAB). In the first disc the DJ from Federation Sound, Max Glazer, remixed the album in an hour-long track that gives "the auditory sensation of experiencing a traditional Jamaican sound system in action." The second disc is all of the tracks that Glazer uses individually and in there entirity, for your own listening pleasure.

Some Newer Music...

Good post Michael, I appreciate the taste of something fresh. Now I have a little ditty for all of you. RJ has already heard this song and liked it (which doesn't really bode all that well considering) but it's catchy and one of those songs all yall might enjoy. It's not neccesarily good rap like Jedi Mind Tricks, but its got a good hook.

Rich Boy- Throw Some D's

I wonder if any rappers see the value in the g4ming m4rk3t...

So far, I'm still on schedule. Here's my third rap posting in as many weeks. I hope this can maintain itself, although it might transform in to simply a music post.
Alex asked for some new shit, so I searched online for some of 2006's top rap albums. I found Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell by Jedi Mind Tricks and downloaded it off of the best0r sit3 EVAR, www.OiNK.me.uk. I love it. But you need to be invited and maintain a good ratio of uploaded to downloaded music. And I don't have enough faith in any of you, except John, to do so.

Anyways, let's hear some of the good shit!!!!!!!! 111one!!eleven!1

Heavy Metal Kings-Jedi Mind Tricks feat. Ill Bill
I think its pretty tight that music that was popular way back in the day can still be appealing now when laced with a hip-hop beat. If only we could go back to the days of dumping fecal matter on the street and women wearing those things that make their boobs look hella big.

(apparently they're called corsets, according to my moms. whatever. bewbs!)

Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story-Jedi Mind Tricks feat. R.A. The Rugged Man
I really like this song. More on R.A. The Rugged Man...

...right now!
Listening to R.A. rap, I thought he sounded weird. Turns out, according to Wikipedia, he's white! Yeah! He had a really fucked up life, too! His dad was in Vietnam, and got screwed up by Agent Orange, the defoliant the U.S. Army used. Apparently, Rugged Man's bro was handicapped, blind, and died at 10. His sister couldn't walk or talk. Poor guy.
Anyways, it figures that he's pretty fucked up. I downloaded one of his CD's (OiNK=pr0n 4 moosik luvers), and although none of the songs really stood out, overall it was pretty good. He doesn't really sound white, but he's just as crazy as a regular white-boi! In one of his skits, he asks this girl to "cut out chunks of his neck" and "hit him in the face with his gun" while he jacks off. Really gets me off (yes homo). His other skit is a bunch of clips of our old friend, Mitch Blood Green. This blog has officially come full circle.

Black and White-R.A. The Rugged Man (feat. Timbo King)
OK, OK, so the black guy kinda rips this beat harder than R.A. Whatever. Fuck him.

A Star is Born-R.A. The Rugged Man

Da Girlz They Love Me- R.A. blah lbah blabh

I like all these songs. PLZ D0\/\/nl0ad...z0rz.

One of the greatest albums of the ninety's...REmix!...

From all of the lists that have been compiled over the last couple of years--with the new millennium, the 50th birthday of Rolling Stone Magazine, etc.--OK Computer by Radiohead has consistently been placed in at least the top ten, if not top three best albums in the last twenty years. Although it does not fall in the genre of music that you all are most familiar with, it think that because of its mastery it is really somthing that you should consider. I would easily put it in my top five favorite albums of all time. I do not think that you will listen to anything else like it. Although this post may seem random, I have just come across two albums that I have been told about many times. These are two different renditions of this timeless album, the first one is the album completely transposed to fit the capabilities of a string quartet, and the second album is the entire album redone by the Easy All-Stars. Both are pretty cool, and even if you don't like one of the versions, you may enjoy the other two, or none at all. Enjoy...

Follow up...

Here is an article on the fate of the companies that were envolved in the boston bomb scare (courtesy of Reuters):

BOSTON (Reuters) - Turner Broadcasting and a New York marketing firm agreed on Monday to pay $2 million in compensation for a "guerrilla" advertising campaign that sparked fears of terrorism in the Boston area last week.

Travel on major roadways and rail lines was suspended and police responded in large numbers last Wednesday after the discovery of blinking electronic devices meant to promote an adult-themed show on Turner's Cartoon Network.

Authorities have charged Sean Stevens, 28, and Peter Berdovsky, 27, in the security alert, Boston's biggest since the September 11 attacks. They pleaded not guilty last week to charges of placing a hoax device and disorderly conduct.

The two were paid by Interference Inc., a New York marketing company hired by Turner Broadcasting System Inc., a unit of Time Warner Inc..

Turner and Interference have agreed to pay a combined $2 million in restitution and other compensation to communities and agencies affected by the scare, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said in a statement.

The settlement includes $1 million to the cities of Boston, Somerville and Cambridge along with Massachusetts state agencies and another $1 million in "good will funds" to finance homeland security and other programs by various groups.

At the peak of the alert, authorities mobilized emergency crews, federal agents, bomb squads, hundreds of police and the U.S. Coast Guard as traffic came to a halt in busy areas. Roads, bridges and part of the Charles River were closed.

I hear from a junior (his name will remain anonymous) that many cities are making fun of Boston for thinking this was actually a bomb threat. Most other cities just thought that they were a bunch of Lite-Brites that were stuck to different public places.

This is what we have come to in America: spending millions of dollars to mobilize bomb squads to defuse "something" that we thought was a bomb. Nice. Nice. Check out the new Budget for the 2008 fiscal year, it looks like we are going to raise our Homeland Security spending by 11%.

I don't get how this show can be on television...

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

This is the show that was responsible for the Boston bomb scare. It is absurd. the writers must be high. They just have to.

Baked much?

I think the "meatwad" at it is called is talking about "whips" and how they help the fat guy get chicks. I will not allow any references to the fat guys appearence and his shocking resemblence to myself; if you weren't going to make that connection then thank you. I guess. Check out some of the youtube videos of thsi show, especially the ones featuring "Boxy Brown".

Is it possible to be this high on national television?

These guys were responsible for the Boston bomb scare. They placed lightbringhts with "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" characters all over Boston and were arrested yesterday. This is their press conference, where they refused to answer questions that were not "hair questions". This is fucking rediculous. The media is pissed.

Here is a promo for the show. It is pretty funny.
